Anais is 23 years old, born in Chicago and raised in Berwyn, IL. She is Salvadoran and Guatemalan. She graduated from the Skin and Beauty Institute in 2021 as an Esthetician.
Q: What led you to work in the holistic wellness industry?
At the age of 18, I grew a passion for skin care and waxing. Growing up, I struggled with acne so I took it upon myself to find a skincare routine that will help me control my acne. But I wanted to be able to offer clients something that went beyond regular facials and body hair removal. I have been learning so much working at Aura on how to incorporate a more holistic approach to skincare and beauty. This is the hardest and most rewarding part of my job, making sure I’m staying up to date with trends and the endless ongoing education to give my clients the best experience I can. As a holistic esthetician, I want to be able to offer my clients an experience that leaves them relaxed, rejuvenated and more confident through skincare. For this reason, we intentionally use all natural products. The skin products we use here at Aura are from Tuel Skincare Lines, which are all-natural vegan products and some of the best products I’ve used. I have noticed a difference in my own skin and have been getting a lot of positive feedback from clients. I also give clients recommendations on diet changes they may need to make and types of products to put on their body to achieve improve their skin. For example, making sure they’re drinking enough water, watching salt/sugar intake, eating foods rich in antioxidants which help the skin. People don’t realize that dehydration causes fine lines and salt/sugar can cause acne and inflammation.
Q: What do you like most about your line of work?
I liked the idea of being my own boss. I love to make people feel confident and have them come in to relax. I fell in love with waxing. To me waxing is like art. Above all, what motivated me into my line of work is knowing that my mom is proud and knowing that I can achieve so much and become an educator.
Q: What do you enjoy doing for fun?
I enjoy working but when I’m not working, I enjoy being outdoors and playing badminton and volunteering at my church. I was on the badminton team for three years in high school and made it to the regionals. I have a dog and a guinea pig; Pebbles is a little chihuahua mix with Jack Russel. The guinea pig is named Cuy.
